Ethical Business in the Digital Era: The Key to Sustaining Profit and Trust
The Diploma 3 Program in Banking and Finance at Universitas Hayam Wuruk Perbanas reaffirmed its commitment to advancing academic insight and addressing contemporary issues through a study titled “Ethical Business in the Digital Era: Between Profit and Honesty.” The study highlights the importance of ethics as a fundamental foundation in conducting business, both for MSMEs and large corporations amid rapid digital transformation.
The Head of the Diploma 3 Banking and Finance Program, Dr. Putri Wulanditya, S.E., M.Ak., CPSAK., CPFRA., CAP., CEAP., CA, emphasized that business ethics is not merely theoretical but a crucial necessity for ensuring business sustainability. According to her, in today’s digital era, business actors face various ethical dilemmas, such as data misuse and misleading marketing practices.
“Business ethics serves as a moral compass in decision-making. Businesses should not focus solely on profit but must also uphold honesty, responsibility, and sustainability,” she stated.
She further explained that core principles of business ethics—honesty, fairness, responsibility, and transparency—must be consistently implemented to maintain customer trust and build long-term reputation.
Meanwhile, a student of the program, Febri Susan Sulistyowati, highlighted the strategic role of young generations in promoting ethical values in business. She noted that students act not only as learners but also as agents of change capable of educating society.
“Students can serve as educators through social media, become role models in entrepreneurship, and create business innovations that generate both profit and social impact,” she said.
The study also discussed various ethical challenges in the digital era, including misleading marketing, data privacy violations, and unfair competition. However, ethical practices are seen as a competitive advantage, enhancing customer loyalty, strengthening brand image, and reducing legal risks.
Through this initiative, the program aims to encourage the emergence of business actors who prioritize not only profit but also integrity. Business ethics is ultimately positioned as a strategic strength in building sustainable enterprises in the digital age.
