In Collaboration with BAZNAS Surabaya, UHW Perbanas Welcomes Students from the City of Heroes through the CESAR Scholarship

Universitas Hayam Wuruk Perbanas, in collaboration with the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) of Surabaya City, is committed to supporting young generations in pursuing higher education without financial burden. This commitment is manifested through the “Cetak Sarjana” (CESAR) Scholarship Program, which targets underprivileged youth from Surabaya. A total of 20 students have been admitted into the undergraduate programs in Management and Accounting under the Faculty of Economics and Business at UHW Perbanas.
The Rector of UHW Perbanas, Dr. Yudi Sutarso, S.E., M.Si., expressed his gratitude for the trust given by BAZNAS Surabaya in entrusting the university to educate and provide higher education services for students from Surabaya.
“This is an honor for UHW Perbanas. We strongly believe that education plays a crucial role in elevating individuals from low-income families to higher social classes,” he stated after the handover ceremony of CESAR scholarship recipients, held in Room C301 at the Wonorejo Campus on Friday (August 1).
As part of Surabaya’s development efforts, Dr. Yudi reaffirmed the university’s continuous involvement in similar initiatives, including those previously initiated by the Surabaya City Government.
“We are committed to providing academic and personal support to ensure these students graduate on time, equipped with the standard competencies set by UHW Perbanas. God willing, within 3 to 4 years, they will complete their studies and be absorbed into the workforce or become entrepreneurs,” he emphasized.
The Chairman of BAZNAS Surabaya, H. Moch. Hamzah, S.T., M.M., explained that the CESAR scholarship program is part of the institution’s 2025 Annual Work and Budget Plan (RKAT), particularly in the field of education. In line with the “One Family, One Graduate” initiative, he reported that a total of 95 underprivileged students are receiving the CESAR scholarship this year, including those studying at UHW Perbanas.
“The goal of this scholarship is to enable social transformation—empowering families living in poverty to become prosperous families blessed by Allah. With broad knowledge, Allah will open the doors of sustenance, and through education, communities in poverty can transform into thriving societies,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Silfia Putri Romadhoni, one of the CESAR Scholarship recipients, expressed her gratitude for being able to pursue higher education through the program. Upon learning about the scholarship from a friend of her mother, the SMK Negeri 4 Surabaya alumna was thrilled to be accepted into the undergraduate Accounting program, which aligns with her personal interest.
“My hope is to grow and improve myself here, to make my parents proud, and to be of benefit to those around me,” said the eldest daughter of Djoko Mulyono and Suharti. (eko/pr)
