Dozens of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Surabaya participated in a Socialization and Experimental Testing of Tax Transformation through the Core Tax System at Universitas Hayam Wuruk Perbanas. This activity was part of a series of research initiatives conducted by a team of lecturers from UHW Perbanas, aiming to examine the level of understanding and compliance of MSME actors with the integrated taxation system known as Coretax.

The Head of the Research Team, Dr. Supriyati, S.E., M.Si., Ak., stated that the participants were mostly micro-scale business actors who already possessed a Tax Identification Number (NPWP) and Business Identification Number (NIB).

“We invited these business actors to assess whether they understand the Coretax system and whether they have been submitting their tax reports digitally,” explained Supriyati after the event on Saturday (August 2).

Supriyati further noted that preliminary findings indicated a low level of tax compliance among MSMEs. One of the primary causes identified was the lack of knowledge among MSME actors regarding tax calculation and how to operate the Coretax system.

"This activity is essentially an experimental behavioral study targeting MSME owners in Surabaya. It is expected to contribute to behavioral research that supports increased tax compliance among MSMEs,” she added.

In response to this situation, she and her team have scheduled a series of special training sessions in the near future. Using real data that has been prepared, MSME participants will be able to practice directly through a Coretax simulation platform.

“It is our hope that after participating in the training, these micro business actors will be able to effectively apply the Coretax system and become more compliant in fulfilling their tax obligations,” she emphasized.

Nurul Hidayah Ikromi, the owner of Eat Me Kitchen and one of the participants, expressed that the event was beneficial. She agreed that micro business owners should also be compliant in tax reporting.

“Initially, I did not know much about taxation. But through this event, I gained a better understanding. It turns out my business falls under the micro MSME category and is indeed required to report taxes, even if the amount is zero,” Nurul stated.

She also welcomed the idea of further training and practical guidance on how to use the Coretax system. “Since we are still unfamiliar with the Coretax system, additional training would be very helpful so we can practice directly,” she concluded.

It is worth noting that this research activity is supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) for the year 2025. The UHW Perbanas lecturer team conducting this initiative consists of: Dr. Supriyati, S.E., M.Si., Ak. (Team Leader), Kadek Pranetha Prananjaya, S.E., M.A., Dewi Murdiawati, S.E., M.M., and Erida Herlina, S.E., M.Si. (eko/pr)
